Zermatt, Switzerland

"Perhaps the most magical place on earth." - Jordan Laemmlen

Christmas Eve, 2021, the bells tolled throughout the small mountain village of Zermatt, Switzerland, harkening all to come celebrate the birth of the Messiah. I'll never forget the beauty of that feeling. It was like drinking a hot cup of glühwein, which I was, while walking through a winter wonderland, which I was.

Everything about Zermatt screamed magic. Even before we entered, we waited at a train station late Christmas Eve with no one else on the snowy platform. It felt like a combination of Hogwarts and the Polar Express. That's another fun fact, you can only get to the village by train. And there are no cars there, only golf carts and horse trolleys.

Then there's the Matterhorn. Wow. What a touch of beauty to really cement that place as iconic. The model in Disneyland doesn't hold a candle to it. We took the ski lift up to the top and saw it in all its glory, along with an epic glimpse of the Swiss Alps. No, we didn't ski. I threw my back out Christmas morning; what a fun gift! But I could hardly complain. I was surrounded by pure beauty.

My wife and I found a small coffee shop, complete with a fireplace and Christmas music, featuring a breathtaking view of the village. Their Budapest desert was an every morning staple.

Now my future Christmases are forever ruined because I had a taste of what being at the North Pole probably feels like. Unless I go back one day, I pray that I can.

If you get the chance, go experience Zermatt for yourself!
